Cayucos is one of the few real beach towns left in California. If you have been here before, then you know what I mean. It is quaint, charming and has everything you would want in a beach community. There is a wide variety of property available in Cayucos, from vacant lots and land, to beachfront homes almost on the water on pacific and studio drive, and beautiful beach cottages in the lettered and numbered streets. Most homes in the area have some sort of ocean view, as the entire town slopes up towards Highway 1. There are also condos and a beautiful mobile home park on the north end of town, also mostly with ocean views. If you are looking for a vacation beach house, or permanent residence, there are plenty of options!
One of the best parts of the entire town is the "downtown" district. Some of these buildings are original from the late 1800's, and it just has a unique feel that you won't find anywhere else in the world. There are charming antique shops, beach toy rentals, surf shops, coffee shops, plenty of restaurant choices and boutique stores. There are no "chain" shops here. Everything is local and fantastic. One of my favorite places to eat is The Sea Shanty. Charming, interesting decor (see for yourself), good food and good people. Another fantastic eatery is The Smokehouse, which is a fresh smoked taco and sandwich place right across from the beach. Looks can be deceiving here. Trust me - these are some of the best fish tacos in the world. He has been featured on the food network, and they are worth every penny. Stop in and say hi to Smoker Jim when you are in town and pick one up.
Cayucos is far enough removed to keep the small town atmosphere, but close enough to the bigger cities to have everything you need within short driving distance. Go east over the hill to Paso Robles, or south about 20 minutes to San Luis Obispo. Both are beautiful drives, and both towns have all the shopping you need! Cayucos also does it up for the holidays. This is one of the best places in California to be for the 4th of July. Cayucos goes ALL OUT with a parade, a sand castle contest, a peddlers fair and fireworks off the pier. The town looks like something out of the 1950's on this great day. It is very family oriented and a ton of fun. Check out the Cayucos web cam for a current view of the beach!
